Natalia S. Cortes-Hidalgo

Associate | Attorney at Law

“I am motivated to help victims of abuse and injustice, advocating for them and giving voice to their sufferings.”

With an LL.M in Health Law, Natalia S. Cortes-Hidalgo possesses specialized knowledge in matters related to medical malpractice torts, personal injuries, defective medical devices, corporate and medical liability in healthcare settings, fraud, and abuse under Federal healthcare programs, and public health and governance. During her tenure with Krause & Kinsman, Natalia has drafted complaints in the Hernia Mesh Litigation for the Covidien and Bard medical devices featured in multidistrict litigations (MDLs) and multicounty litigations (MCLs). Her work includes a thorough and detailed evaluation of each of the Plaintiff’s medical records, their medical devices (mesh), the injuries related to their medical device, and its long-lasting side effects.  Natalia assists Krause & Kinsman with compiling the Plaintiff’s medical records and other pertinent evidence and serving them on the Defendants, as well as occasionally filing the MDL complaints. Natalia has also taken on settlement administration responsibilities, where she has conducted comprehensive analyses of the Plaintiff’s injuries and evidence in settlement allocations and appeals, with the aim of securing higher settlement offers.

In the Camp Lejeune Toxic Waters Lawsuit, Natalia plays a key role in gathering the necessary evidence related to deceased Plaintiffs. She takes on both administrative and leadership responsibilities by overseeing and guiding a team. This includes coordinating with probate courts across the nation, requesting, processing, and managing certified copies of probate dockets for Plaintiffs with closed estates, all in preparation for trial. She also assists with Camp Lejeune’s Leadership meetings, providing detailed summaries of the leaders’ upcoming plans concerning the nationwide litigation.

In the Boy Scouts of America Sexual Abuse Bankruptcy, Natalia is part of a team thoroughly evaluating each of the Victims/Plaintiff’s stories, their involvement in scouting, their specific sexual abuse experience, and their impacted aftermaths. These detailed evaluations are necessary to appropriately reflect their long-lasting injuries. This assists the BSA Trustee in evaluating the Plaintiff’s claim and comprehending the magnitude of their significant lifetime events. Natalia worked on cases with the most intricate and complex evidence, evaluating the evidence available and communicating with the Victims/Plaintiffs to incorporate their experiences into their claims in order to help them achieve a reasonable settlement offer. Natalia’s personality is reflected in her accessible communication. She takes pride in explaining things so that clients understand their legal situations.

In addition to being an attorney, Natalia is a business owner and artisan, making and selling hand-painted fine clothing and accessories. Inspired by nature, she enjoys painting textiles and transforming them into beautiful, wearable pieces of art. In her free time, Natalia also loves dancing—Belly Dance, Bomba (traditional Puerto Rican afro-dance), Bachata, Merengue, and many others. Natalia also enjoys spending quality time with her spoiled puppies and loved ones. Her love of traveling was fostered by her time in Spain, where she studied for her bachelor’s degree.
